Introduction

The 9th edition of the international athletics meeting *Hvězdy v Nehvizdech* is already knocking at the door. For 2026, the date for the world’s athletics elite has been scheduled for 25 February 2026. For all athletes, this means only one thing — peak form. It is a date just before all national championships and the final stop of the Indoor World Tour before the European and World Indoor Championships. The seventh edition brought a host of records, and performances from Nehvizdy literally conquered the top positions of the 2025 world athletics rankings. This presents us with a major challenge: how to maintain the quality and once again attack the world rankings from the number-one spot. The organizing team expects — and promises — record-breaking attempts again this year! At the start we will see the world number one and world champion in the shot put, Sarah Mitton of Canada, competing against the European champion Jessica Schilder of the Netherlands. We have confirmed that no other meeting in the world will feature this duel between these two. Czech athletics will also be represented by Martina Mazurová. In 2024, Martina won silver at the World Junior Championships in Lima.

The men’s shot put will, due to great interest, even be divided into two competitions. Even in the “B” event, athletes throwing beyond 21 m will be on display!!! In the main “A” event, we will have the great honor of welcoming for the first time the titan from the USA and global TOP STAR Joe Kovacs. Having Joe at the meeting has been our organizers’ dream since the event was founded. With a personal best of 23.23 m, he threatens to break through the walls of our indoor arena. His main rival is Leonardo Fabbri of Italy, who became European champion last year and, as the only one, interrupted the long-standing dominance of U.S. throwers on the international stage. He stole their thunder and dominated the Diamond League. His personal best stands at 22.98 m!!! Among his opponents will also be our own Tomáš Staněk, who will be aiming to reclaim the throne at his home meeting. Next in line is Rajindra Campbell of Jamaica, who brought home bronze from the Paris Olympics. Of the world’s top eight shot putters, as many as seven are expected to appear in Nehvizdy — because the World Championships silver medallist Uziel Muñoz of Mexico will also compete in Europe for the first time.
